Leading the Bradford Friendship Choir

Performing with Bradford Friendship Choir

Music
I am forever in awe of the power of music to communicate, soothe and unite. I love ...
-
the energy of voices singing together and the connection you feel playing music collectively,
-
the way music expresses that which goes beyond words, and
-
watching people start to believe that they too are musical.
Featured Project
Bradford Friendship Choir and the Friendship Opera
In 2016 I started delivering singing sessions at a weekly social event for people who are refugees and those seeking asylum in Bradford. 6 months later a committee was formed and we started the joyful singing sanctuary Bradford Friendship Choir. We now have over 80 members and meet weekly to sing songs of hope, freedom and peace from around the world. The choir has performed at many high profile events including WOW Festival, The Sage, Newcastle and St Georges Theatre, Bradford.

Last year I was commissioned by Freedom Studios and Skipton Camerata to compose an opera based on a libretto written by Alex Chisholm inspired by members stories of friendships. Despite it being one of my biggest ever musical challenges I loved learning new skills in composing as well as singing together in the performance our own words and stories. A personal highlight in my career to date!
